Naming the EUTC Studios - Celebrating industry icons

Students have been voting for which successful media industry practitioner they want to name as their studio icon.  The short list was extensive including Great British Makeup artists like Jenny Shircore, Cinematographers like Laurie Rose, Graphic designers like Paul McNeill, Game designers like Jenny Curry and Filmmakers like Hitchcock.

From this shortlist, the following ambassadors of the British creative culture industries were chosen...

Es Devlin is a stage, set and costume designer whose work crosses a wide range of genres: opera, dance, film, theatre, concerts and fashion. She also works as creative director for number of pop artists and has been designing shows and exhibitions for Louis Vuitton since 2014 . Devlin designed the London 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony.

Steve McQueen is a film director, producer, screenwriter, and video artist. He won an Osca and a BAFTA for his film '12 years a slave'. He has also earned a BFI fellowship and membership to the New York Film Critics Circle in recognition of his work as a producer and director.  For his artwork, McQueen has received the Turner Prize, the highest award given to a British visual artist. In 2006, he was given the OBE for services to the visual arts.

Paul Greengrass is a film and television director, film producer, screenwriter and former journalist. Greengrass specialises in dramatisations of real-life events and is known for his signature use of hand-held cameras and documentary style. His early film 'Bloody Sunday' won the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. Other films he has directed include the Jason Bourne trilogy and United 93 (2006), for which he won a BAFTA for Best Director.  He has also been nominated for a 'best director' oscar for Green Zone (2010) and Captain Phillips (2013). In 2004 he co-wrote and produced the film Omagh, which won British Academy Television Award.

We are delighted to have these great creative media artists as our EUTC studio 'icons of industry'.  We look forward to seeing some of our alumni achieve these levels of success in their own creative practice.
