A message to EUTC class of 2020.

Yesterday was a strange day... a 'farewell' that came too soon. Year 11 and year 13 left school early, with no celebration assembly, no leavers’ ball - their last day was sprung on them. It was strange - none of us really wanted to leave, it felt too soon and insufficient.

Once particular year 13 student’s reflection hit me. She said that she was sad not to get the opportunity to prove herself. She was kew that she had matured and grown so much since she passed her GCSEs as a 15 year old. She was now almost 18 and wanted to show who she had become - to succeed in her exams and leave the school as an ‘achiever’. She felt as if the last 2 years didn’t count for as much because she hadn’t seen them through to the end. I think I know how she feels - she was seeking formal recognition and conclusion. Certification that the time was worthwhile and that she had amounted to something. She articulated herself well but I believe she spoke for many - most of our leavers class of 2020.

So I made a small video featuring a few faces of the staff here who love you. We know who you are and who you have become and are becoming… your time with us HAS been worthwhile. The relationships and the learning still counts for EVERYTHING. We will celebrate together on the other side of all this physical distancing and self isolation. Until then, be safe and well in the knowledge that your achievements are to come... You will rise... You will become... and time is on your side.
