Being an Active Citizen (Assembly)

“Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country.” JFK

What does it mean to be an active citizen?

  • An active citizen is somebody who cares enough about their community enough to want to change it for the better.

  • Active citizens ‘do’ things that improve the lives of others.

  • They take action on issues in order to make a difference.

  • Active citizens volunteer their time to try and improve the lives of those around them.

  • Active citizens try to do what is right.

  • Active citizens have a sense of personal responsibility.

How could you be an active citizen at ESA?

  • Volunteer to be a Student Voice representative and be part of a committee that is going to take action on behalf of all the students to improve our college.

  • Volunteer to be a peer mentor. Maybe you have been through some issues in the past that could help you understand what others are going through now so that you could give them guidance.

  • Speak out against any injustice you see. Speak up for others who might not have the confidence to do it for themselves.

  • Take responsibility for keeping our college environment clean and tidy.

  • Go out of your way to do something to make others happy.
